Brief Description
Dance is offered as both an elective and an HSC subject at Fairvale High School. Students engage in weekly Performance, Composition and Dance Appreciation classes in a well-equipped specialised classroom. In Years 9-10 students explore a range of dance styles from Classical Ballet to Hip Hop through both practical and theoretical experiences. Each student learns the importance of Dance as an Art Form as they value their own work and the work of others. Opportunities are provided for students to collaborate with others in group choreography tasks as well as perform for various events such as Musicals, Dance Showcase Evenings, Assemblies, Nursing Home Visits and many more. From Years 9-12 students of Dance are provided with extra circular opportunities including Dance Ensembles, Regional Dance Festivals, Musicals and the Schools Spectacular. In Years 11-12 students refine their dance skills through the study and application of safe dance practices, dance technique and performance quality. Students learn about Dance in Australia, International Choreographers and develop their own individual compositions. Students perform their Core Performance, Core Composition and Major Works at a HSC Dance Showcase Evening in preparation for their external HSC examination. |
